Out in the Wasteland, amidst the sand and blood, it’s understandable that faces get forgotten. Even so, it does make you wonder why when Max Rockatansky came across a one-armed truck driver coming out of The Citadel, he didn’t realise it was the girl he rescued years before. The two spend a significant amount of time together in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” with the Road Warrior paying very close attention to her so that she doesn’t get the drop on him. With a mind on high alert, wouldn’t it make sense for him to figure out who he was speaking to and even saved for a second time at the end of “Mad Max: Fury Road?”
It’s possible that after spending years out on the road, haunted by ghosts of the past and rarely speaking to anyone else, Max might’ve not even paid attention to who he was rescuing. This could have been a simple act of kindness in a violent and inherently unkind world. Who knows, though? This altruistic deed might get revisited in whatever future film Miller has planned to reunite us with Max leading up to “Mad Max: Fury Road.” After all, the road is long and anything can happen.
