James Gunn’s Superman Movie Villain May Borrow A Plot Twist From The Boys
Only speculation and reports suggest that James Gunn’s “Superman” will have a devious clone of the titular character, so it should all be taken with a grain of salt for now. Rumors have long posited that Ultraman is in the flick, and with the mysterious, black-clad figure boasting that stylized “U” on their chest, it seems likely they were correct. If this is the case, it would be pretty interesting to see Gunn take on that iconic “Boys” plot twist.
“The Boys” TV show rejected the huge Homelander reveal, changing the adapted storyline’s endgame from the source material. In the comics, it’s Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) who is responsible for Homelander’s (Antony Starr) downfall. In the Prime Video adaptation, Black Noir was unmasked in Season 3, confidently throwing away the idea that there’s a Homelander clone hiding underneath the mask. Black Noir is killed by Homelander following the reveal, with Season 4 introducing audiences to a “new” Noir (still played by Mitchell).
If Gunn does unmask the mysterious character in the “Superman” set photos to reveal Ultraman, it would be a huge deal. It would be a mind-boggling scene to show the villain shed his black suit in favor of Superman’s classic clothes, fooling everyone and making them think the Man of Steel isn’t as altruistic as he seems. Could it be that Ultraman has been on Earth for years, waiting to destroy Kal-El? And is it possible that the image of Superman being arrested is in relation to a crime that the villain committed while disguised as him? We’ll find out when James Gunn’s “Superman” arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025.
