As compelling as the concept is, it’s nothing more than just a fan trailer. The idea is certainly intriguing, proving that the bones of “The Matrix” franchise could exist in any era, whether it be the ’50s or the 2020s, like “The Matrix Resurrections.” What’s particularly interesting is how the TikTok creator used artificial intelligence to create his interpretation of “The Matrix,” which goes against the core tenets of the franchise.
In the series, humans wage war against machines, or AI, who have enslaved humanity. Seeing as AI continues to grow in popularity, especially within Hollywood, it’s interesting how such a brilliant concept could only be created by technology that undermines the thesis of the franchise. Regardless of the ramifications of AI, it’s pretty great concept that has us imagining just how cool Audrey Hepburn would be in an action film. It’s also a great appetizer to keep fans fed while they wait for the next “Matrix” picture. Unfortunately, audiences have no idea what filmmaker Drew Goddard is cooking up with his film, which could be a reboot or sequel.
Recontextualizing the series in a different era could be an interesting way to continue the series, and could probably lend itself to rectifying some plot holes from “The Matrix” franchise that still need explaining. What we do know is that franchise co-creator Lana Wachowski is executive-producing Goddard’s vision, which should appease some hardcore “Matrix” fans.
